Pepper from around the World on eBay
One of the most overlooked spices in the kitchen is pepper. Everyone uses Black Pepper, it's been around forever. But what about other peppercorn varieties? On eBay you can buy exotic pepper from all over the world!
Below I've listed some of the World's best and most exotic peppercorns found on eBay. Be forewarned, after using some of these peppercorns, you probably won't go back to "Store Bought" black pepper again!
Tellicherry Peppercorns
Regarded as one of the best peppercorns in the world, "Tellicherry" is an obvious first choice. Tellicherry peppercorns come from the Malabar Coast of India and are left on the vine longer, to develop a deeper, richer flavor. I use this pepper the most. I have a bag of these in my header pic. You'll notice they are larger than the average peppercorn.
What's your favorite pepper?
Pink Peppercorns
Pink Peppercorns come from Madagascar and are cultivated in France. They are not actually a "Peppercorn" but more of a "Berry", but can be put in the pepper mill nonetheless!
The Pink Peppercorns have a bite, almost like a chile pepper, but with a sweet fruit flavor. A cool addition to the Kitchen counter and a great conversation piece at the dinner table.
Lampong Peppercorns
Unlike the Tellicherry peppercorns, that are left a bit longer on the vine to gain the "depth" of flavor they are known for, the Lampong peppercorn are picked a bit early. This gives them a "Sharpness" that many find appealing and might work better with certain dishes.
Lampong Peppercorns are described as a "Sharp", higher heat level, but not lingering flavor of a Tellicherry. The Lampong peppercorns are also regarded as some of the Worlds finest peppercorns and come from Indonesia.
Cambodian Kampot Peppercorn
Kampot is a riverside village in Southern Cambodia, and these rare peppercorns have been renowned for decades as one of the world's finest. And guess what? Yes, you can find these on eBay as well. These wonderful peppercorns are described as "Having floral dimension that's really something special" --- Time Magazine did a great review of this peppercorn -- Back to The Grinder .
I also read a description of "Heat with a bit of eucalyptus". The aroma literally "jumps out of the bag".
Sarawak White Peppercorns
Sarawak White peppercorns are actually ripe Sarawak Black peppercorns that are left under running water for several days. The outer layer is then wiped off, and what is left is a peppercorn with "woody and delicate acidic" flavor.
Sarawak White peppercorns have been described as "Harmonious", with a fantastic fragrance and delicate flavors. They are loved by the French and used in White Sauces, Cremes, and Broths. They come from Malaysia,
There are several more varieties of peppercorns to explore, (Szechuan, Green, Malabar) and I highly suggest you do!
Collecting and sampling pepper can be fun, make your meals even better, and are great conversation pieces at the dinner table.
With eBay, you can have them delivered to your doorstep in days. How cool is that?
